A man has died after falling ill while climbing a mountain on the Isle of Skye.
Skye Mountain Rescue Team was called after a 79-year-old man suffered a medical incident on Sgurr nan Gillean in the Cullins around 1pm on Saturday.
The Stornoway-based Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter was also alerted but couldn’t reach the casualty due to low clouds.
Around 12 members of the rescue team were airlifted up the hill and dropped as close to the scene as possible.
The team and the man’s companions worked to revive him, but were unable to do so.
The group were then escorted off the hill by the team before the body was transported by helicopter.
A spokesperson for SMRT said: “Everyone at Skye MRT would like to convey our deepest condolences to his family.
“We would also like to extend our gratitude to the crew of R948 and to the management and staff of Sligachan Hotel for being there for us once again.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 12.40pm on Saturday, August 23, 2025, we were made aware of a 79-year-old man having taken unwell on Sgurr Nan Gillean, Carbost.
“Emergency services attended and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
