Driver seriously injured as car careers into cemetery wall

A man has been left seriously injured after his car collided with a roadside barrier before smashing into a cemetery wall in the Highlands.

The incident took place on the A828 road near Duror at around 5.30pm on Monday and involved a red Audi A4.

Police said the 40-year-old driver and sole occupant was to taken Belford Hospital in Fort William before being transferred to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where medical staff describe his condition as serious.

The road was closed for around four hours to allow for an investigation at the scene and police are now appealing for witnesses.

There has now been an appeal to other motorists for any dashcam footage.

Sergeant David Miller, of the Road Policing Unit in Dingwall, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision.

“The car was being driven north before the crash and I would urge anyone who either witnessed the incident or who saw the vehicle on the road beforehand to come forward.

“Anyone who may have dashcam footage is asked to review this and then pass on anything which could be of note.”
