A driver has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash between two SUVs in the Highlands.

The collision between a blue Volkswagen Tiguan and a black Range Rover happened at around 3.45pm on Sunday on the on the A890 between Achnasheen and Auchtertyre.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Range Rover, a 33-year-old man, was taken by air ambulance to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tiguan, a 78-year-old man, was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The passenger of the Tiguan, a 73-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

No one else was seriously injured.

The road was closed and re-opened ar around midnight.

Sergeant Doug Scott said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and we are asking anyone who can assist to get in touch.

“If you were in the area at the time and can help or have dash-cam footage that has captured useful information then please make contact with officers.”

Anyone who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2181 of Sunday, August 25.
