A community centre has been “significantly” damaged and laptops stolen following a break-in in the Highlands.

Officers said the break-in happened at the community centre in Mallaig between 5.15pm on on Wednesday and 7am on Thursday.

Police confirmed that electrical items including laptops and a quantity of money were stolen from the building.

It added that the centre sustained a “significant amount of damage” in the incident.

The force is urging anyone with information regarding the break-in to come forward.

Police constable Rob Willens said: “We are keen to trace those responsible for the break-in and damage caused and are appealing to the public for assistance.

“The centre is a hub for local people and loss of the equipment and the damage caused to the building will undoubtedly impact the local community.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0481 of August 29, 2024”
