A cluster of Covid-19 cases has surfaced in the Highlands.

Five cases have been confirmed in the Inverness town of Grantown but health chiefs have not revealed details of the exact location.

Contact tracing is being carried out, with everyone identified as close contacts being advised to self-isolate.

NHS Highland director of public health, Dr Tim Allison, said: “We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the virus can recur even in rural communities.

“Everyone should continue to adhere to physical distancing guidelines, wear a face-covering when in enclosed spaces, clean your hands and surfaces regularly and immediately self-isolate if you develop symptoms.”

The board’s health protection team is monitoring the situation.

Covid-19 numbers have been comparatively low in the Highlands and Islands.

The virus has, however, claimed the lives of ten residents at Home Farm care home in Portree on Skye.
