Carer struck off after stealing Buckfast, punching shopkeeper and torching home

A carer in Inverness has been struck off after being convicted of stealing Buckfast, punching a shop worker and igniting a fire in a property.

Jade Vint was struck off from the register after she was found to have left a resident lying in urine and failed to change them between September 2016 and July 2017.

An investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) found that the carer also falsified records using her colleague’s initials on charts.

The watchdog said that Vint was found to have ignored multiple calls from residents while lying on a sofa using her mobile phone.

The carer also failed to reposition multiple residents as required, and told colleagues that she had done so.

In 2018, while registered as a carer, the SSSC found that she had stolen two bottles of Buckfast wine from Barney’s store and punched a member of staff.

In 2022, Vint was convicted at Inverness Sheriff Court for stealing food and alcohol products while on bail.

The SSSC report added that she was also convicted of “wilfully” setting fire to shoes, aerosol cans, clothing and other household items in 2021.

The report found: “The fire took effect thereon and as a result the fire spread to the walls and ceiling of said property and you did commit this offence while on bail.”

The decision report found that Vint’s actions during her work as a carer put multiple vulnerable residents in harms way.

The report acknowledged her convictions outside of work, concluding: “Social service workers must not behave, while in or outside of work, in a way which would bring their suitability to work in social services into question.”

It continued: “Punching a retail employee represented a violent loss of self-control and likely caused emotional and physical harm to the victim.”
