Emergency services were alerted to the collision at Dunbeath at around 5pm.
Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and to expect delays as the vehicles are recovered.
It is unknown how many vehicles were involved and if anyone was injured.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A9 is closed in both directions at Dunbeath due to a crash which was reported around 5pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025.
“Motorists are asked to avoid the area.”
