A bus driver has suffered serious injuries after a lorry shed part of its load on the A96 near Inverness.

Emergency services were called to the scene near the hamlet of Tornagrain around 9.30pm on Friday evening.

Part of a load from a red DAF HGV fell from the vehicle and struck a bus. The lorry driver did not stop at the scene but the vehicle was traced a short time later.

The female bus driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries. No one else was injured in the incident.

Sergeant Doug Scott said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver of the HGV and establish the full circumstances of the crash.

“We are appealing for any motorists who were in the area around the time of the crash and may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.

“I’d also ask that anyone with dash-cam footage review this and see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3253 of December 5, 2025.
