A hospital on the Isle of Skye has been forced to partially close due to water damage caused by Storm Boelo.

Broadford Hospital opened in May 2022 at a cost of £40m and has 24 beds.

NHS Highland has confirmed the site has sustained water damage caused by Storm Boelo.

Over the weekend, the storm brought gale-force winds and heavy rain, which caused major disruption across many parts of the West Coast, including businesses and facilities on Skye.

An update posted to social media read: “Contingency plans are in place to keep the hospital and its services running while repairs are carried out.

“Some areas have been closed off and we are using alternative areas of the hospital in the meantime. Patient safety remains our priority.

“If you have an appointment today or in the coming days that is affected, the team will contact you directly. If you have not heard from us, please attend as normal.

“Thank you for bearing with us while we get the building back to normal.”
