A motorcyclist who died following a crash with a van on the A82 in the Highlands has been named by police.

Andy McDiarmid, 51, from Nairnshire, was riding a black and red Honda CBR when he was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit.

The incident happened south of Inverness, at the junction for the Loch Ness Country House Hotel, at around 7.45pm on Tuesday.

Mr McDiarmid was pronounced dead at the scene.

The van driver was not injured.

Police closed the road for investigation works. It eventually reopened at around 12.35am on Wednesday.

Sergeant David Miller said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr McDiarmid and enquiries continue into the full circumstances of what happened.

“Anyone with information that could help is asked to call 101.”
