Baby boy dies after two rescued from water in major emergency response in Ullapool STV News

A baby boy has died after being rescued from a loch in the Scottish Highlands.

Two people were recovered from Loch Broom at Ullapool Harbour on Monday afternoon.

The child was flown by air ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Police said he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Officers said an investigation into the incident was ongoing but that the boy’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

They said a report would be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm on Monday, October 16, 2023, we were called to a report of a person in the water at Ullapool Harbour, Shore Street in Ullapool.

“Emergency services attended and two people were rescued from the water.

“A baby boy was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by air ambulance. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

“No one else required hospital treatment.

“An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances. However, the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
