Armed police lock down city street due to 'disturbance'

Emergency services were called to the Muirtown Street area of Inverness at around 12pm on Thursday.

Armed police have locked down a street in the Highlands following a “disturbance”.

Emergency services were called to the Muirtown Street area of Inverness at around 11.50am on Thursday.

Pictures from the scene show a large emergency response deployed, including armed police units and three Scottish Fire and Rescue appliances.

The public has been asked to avoid the area as crews remain in attendance at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.50am on Thursday, May 9, 2024, we were called to a report of a disturbance in the Muirtown Street area of Inverness.

“Emergency services are in attendance.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 12.02pm on Thursday, May 9, to assist emergency service partners at an incident on Muirtown Street, Inverness.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the area.

“Crews remain in attendance.”
