Police ScotlandA re-appeal has been launched almost two years after a teenager disappeared on a Scottish island.
Aleksandr Benga was last seen on CCTV near the water wheel in the grounds of Lews Castle in Stornoway on November 18 at around 8.45am.
The 16-year-old, who would now be aged 18, is described as around 6ft 2in in height with a slim build and short, brown hair.
An extensive search, including specialist search advisors, police dogs and Mountain Rescue Team, with help from the HM Coastguard and volunteers from the local community, was carried out following the teenager’s disappearance with no trace found.
Police have warned against speculating online and instead to come forward with any information.
Chief inspector Ross McCartney said: “I would like to offer reassurance that all available lines of enquiry have been checked and any new, relevant information is assessed.
“I would ask people to avoid speculating online and instead please contact us.
“We are reappealing to anyone who is yet to speak to police or may have any information that could assist our enquiries to please come forward.
“This remains extremely upsetting for Aleksandr’s family and friends. His family has expressed their gratitude to everyone who has offered help and support and have requested their privacy be respected.”
“We will continue to review all available information and act on any new information which comes to light. If someone has any information, no matter how small it may seem, please contact us.”
