A Highlands road has been closed in both directions following a crash between a motorcycle and a car.

Police were called to the scene on the A835 near Garve at around 11.10am on Saturday.

It is currently unknown if anyone has been injured in the collision.

Social media reports state that a car and a motorcycle were involved.

Drivers have been asked to avoid the area while the road remains closed, with those travelling to Ullapool facing a 86 mile diversion.

Ferry operator CalMac advised passengers who are travelling to catch the Ullapool to Stornoway crossing at 7pm to travel via Bonar Bridge and Lairg instead.

A spokesperson said: “Due to a RTA south of Garve, the A385 is likely to remain closed in both directions for several hours.

“Please be prepared to take an alternative route via Bonar bridge and Lairg or check Traffic Scotland updates before travelling.”

Bus operator CityLink told passengers the 4.40pm service from Inverness to Ullapool will still run, however it will have to take a 90-minute diversion if the road is closed.

It confirmed that CalMac will hold the ferry if that is the case.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 11.10am on Saturday, 15 April, to a report of a two vehicle crash on the A835 near Garve.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.”
