Two teenagers have died following a car crash on the B9006 near Inverness.

The crash between the Vauxhall Corsa and Mercedes C class happened around 6.45pm on Thursday on the road, which was closed for several hours, near Sunnyside.

A 16-year-old female passenger in the Vauxhall died at the scene of the crash, while an 18-year-old male passenger later died of his injuries at Raigmore Hospital.

They were later named as Georgia Gilham, from Inverness, and John Foggo, from North Kessock.

The driver of the car, 19, and another 16-year-old female passenger were also taken to the hospital where they are being treated for their "serious injuries".

The driver and passenger of the Mercedes car were treated at the hospital and later discharged with no serious injuries.

Inspector Ian Graham said: "Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Georgia and John, who tragically lost their lives as a result of last night’s collision.

"I would like to thank those who assisted at the scene and to the fire and ambulance service for their support during the incident.

"Enquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances. I would urge anyone who may have information that would assist, and who hasn't yet come forward, to do so as soon as possible."
