Syrian refugees are set to be rehomed in the Western Isles, with two families arriving this spring and up to six more by the end of the year.

Western Isles Council said the cost of housing them during the first year will be covered by the UK Government.

Scotland agreed to take nearly a third of the first 1000 refugees to settle in Britain.

Bute welcomed 15 families in December after they were given leave to stay in the UK for five years.

Refugees have also settled in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire.
