The Scottish snowsports season has started in earnest with all five of Scotland's ski centres open for business.

The opening of the season was delayed by unseasonably warm weather in the mountains over New Year.

But both Cairngorm Mountain and the Lecht were able to open a limited number of runs last week as snow began to fall.

Wintery conditions are likely to continue over the weekend, with the Met Office forecasting heavy snow and ice across the north of Scotland.

Glenshee's new three-seater chairlift is expected to be in operation within the week following a £5.5m investment in snowsports by the Scottish Government.

Winter sports contribute £30m a year to the Scottish economy and directly employ more than 600 people.
