Snowsports enthusiasts have taken to the slopes as two of Scotland's ski centres open for the season.

Cairngorm Mountain and the Lecht opened a limited number of runs on Friday morning despite difficult conditions.

The start of the Scottish ski season was delayed by unseasonably warm weather in the mountains this year.

But plunging temperatures and heavy snow across parts of the Highlands improved conditions for snowsports.

Glencoe Mountain, the Nevis Range and Glenshee Ski Centre are waiting for more snow to fall before they welcome their first visitors.

The Met Office has forecast heavy snow and sleet across the north and east of Scotland on Friday.
