A new Princess Diaries movie is in the works, it has been reported.
Disney is returning to the fictional country of Genovia for a third instalment of the Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews-led film series.
However, it is unclear whether the two main stars will reprise their roles as Princess Mia Thermopolis and Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
The film is thought to be a continuation of the story from the 2004 sequel, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which brought in $134.7m globally.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aadrita Mukerji is penning a script for a new instalment.
Debra Martin Chase, who produced the first two Princess Diaries, is producing the new film. Melissa Stack, the screenwriter behind the Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman and the 2020 Disney+ feature Godmothered, is executive producing.
Hathaway, who made her feature-film debut in the original 2001, has previously voiced her desire to make the franchise a trilogy.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it,” Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work.”
