Suspect charged with attempted murder of Rihanna

It is alleged that Ms Ortiz drove to the home of Rihanna and her family on Sunday afternoon and fired a semiautomatic weapon multiple times at the residence.

A 35-year-old woman accused of allegedly firing gunshots at the Los Angeles home of singer Rihanna has been charged with attempted murder.

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz from Florida was also charged with 10 counts of assault on a person with a semiautomatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling, local officials said.

It is alleged that Ms Ortiz drove to the home of Rihanna and her family on Sunday afternoon and fired a semiautomatic weapon multiple times at the residence.

Hochman said Rihanna (Robin Fenty), her partner rapper A$AP Rocky (Rakim Mayers), their three children, and Rihanna’s mother were all on the property at the time of the incident.

He said Rihanna and her partner were together in a trailer on the property at the time of the shooting, whilst other family members and staff were inside the house.

“Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted,” Hochman said in a statement.

“Thankfully, no one was injured in this shooting, but this careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons.”

Inside the court, Ortiz’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford, at first entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf, but then withdrew it in favour of postponing the arraignment until March 25.

She is being held on a $1.8 million bail (around £1.3 million).

Bradford did not speak to reporters outside of court.

The LA County Public Defender’s Office said in a statement that it could not comment on the pending case against Ortiz.

“As in every case, we will work to ensure that our client receives the full protections guaranteed under the Constitution,” the statement said.

If convicted on all charges, Ortiz could get life in prison.

Judge Theresa McGonigle issued a protection order for Ortiz to stay away from Rihanna and her partner, as well as their home.

She also added that Ortiz is not allowed to possess any firearms or ammunition, along with several other conditions.

A nine-time Grammy Award winner, Rihanna has 14 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100. She founded the makeup brand Fenty Beauty in 2017.

She and A$AP Rocky announced the birth of their third child, a girl named Rocki Irish Mayers, in September.
