STV Radio's Ewen Cameron 'saves woman's life'

STV Radio presenter Ewen Cameron has told how he saved a woman’s life who had injured herself while out walking her dogs.

Speaking on The STV Radio Football Podcast, Ewen shared how he was driving to Muiravonside Country Park when he noticed a dog on the pavement trying to catch his attention.

He told co-hosts Ronnie Charters and Callum Bell: “I found it quite weird. It was stood there on its own, but it was looking right at me.

“Then I saw a woman’s body lying next to a wall on the other side. I slammed on the brakes, jumped out the car and had a proper look down the road, and it was definitely a human lying on the path behind the wall.

“It turned out the woman had been there for two hours. She’d injured herself and had crawled to the point where she couldn’t crawl any further. She was out with two dogs. She couldn’t really speak. Her lips were blue – she wasn’t in a great place.”

Ewen explained how he took her jacket off and put it under her head before giving her his own jacket.

He soon discovered that the woman had a second dog who was nowhere to be seen.

“There were houses further down the road, so I grabbed her dog, ran down the road and banged on neighbours’ doors to get some help”, he said.

“A wee Jack Russell [the second dog] was at a neighbour’s door scratching at it, as if to try and get some help. Dogs are such wonderful creatures. I still believe the wee dog that was standing out on the path looking at me was trying to catch my attention. It worked, clearly.

“I knocked on the door, and a woman came out. I was stood there with this dog and the little Jack Russell, who was happy to see me and was jumping up and down on my leg. It ran into the house, and this woman must have been thinking, ‘What the f**k is going on here?’ Then it dawned on her.”

Ewen confirmed that the worrying incident had a happy outcome.

He explained: “The NHS were unbelievable. They got the ambulance there really quickly. The neighbours who came out to help were unbelievable. I genuinely thought we were going to lose her – it was that bad.

“I got a text message last night from the woman whose door I knocked on, and the good news is she had a big operation over the weekend, and she’s sitting up, and she’s doing great.”
