Celebrated Scottish actor Maurice Roëves, who starred in Rab C Nesbitt and River City, has died at the age of 83.
The veteran performer enjoyed a career on stage and screen spanning six decades.
He was most recently seen in Glasgow-set BBC drama The Nest and also appeared in Doctor Who and Star Trek.
Roëves, who was born in Sunderland but considered himself a Scot after being educated in Glasgow, was described as a “truly dedicated and gifted actor” by his agency, who confirmed his death in a statement.
Lovett Logan said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the passing of our wonderful client Maurice Roëves.
“Maurice had a hugely successful career in both theatre and screen which spanned several, starting in his home country of Scotland and moving to London and the United States.
“He was loved by his legions of fans for many of his performances, including Vincent Diver in Tutti Frutti, Stotz in Doctor Who, Romulan Captain in Star Trek and Colonel Edmund Munro in The Last of the Mohicans.
“Maurice loved nothing more than being on set with his fellow actors and worked right up until the end, recently being seen in the BBC series The Nest at the start of this year.
“As well as being a truly dedicated and gifted actor, he was also a real gentleman and delight to have as a client.”
Married to Vanessa, Roëves also portrayed Sir Matt Busby in docudrama Surviving Disasters, the story of the Munich air disaster.
He later had a role, playing Jimmy Gordon, in the Damned United in 2009 – a film about former football manager Brian Clough.
“We will miss him greatly and our thoughts and love go out to Vanessa and his family,” Lovett Logan added.
