Legendary Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is to be honoured at Gothenburg Film Festival with a lifetime award.
The Scot, best known for his roles in Trainspotting and Star Wars, is the latest name to be chosen for the Honorary Dragon Award at the 47th edition of the Swedish festival.
McGregor will attend the event in Gothenburg which runs from Friday, January 26 to Sunday, February 4 and fans will get to see the actor present the Nordic premiere screening of his latest movie Mother, Couch.
The actor stars in the leading role of the 2023 film directed by Swedish filmmaker Niclas Larsson.
The 52-year-old from Perth will receive the Dragon Award, previously won by Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen and Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson, following a screening of the 1996 classic film Trainspotting.
The festival will also show a retrospective of some of McGregor’s most famous films and the actor will participate in a question and answer session at musical theatre Stora Teatern in Gothenburg.
McGregor is also set to star alongside his wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead and be an executive producer on an upcoming Paramount+ and Showtime TV series called A Gentleman in Moscow.
Jonas Holmberg, artistic director of the Göteborg Film Festival, said: “Ewan McGregor is an androgynous symbol of the Cool Britannia era, a romantic icon for the millennial generation, and a saber-swinging franchise holder in the pop-cultural centre of the galaxy.
“But above all, he is an incredibly skilled artist. By mastering stylised extravagance, literary precision, and nuanced realism with the same relaxed self-evidence, Ewan McGregor has shown that he is one of the truly great actors of our time.”
