More tickets are to be released for Oasis’ reunion gigs in Edinburgh as the city council approved increased capacity at Murrayfield.

Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are to play sold-out shows across the UK this summer, including three nights at the home of Scottish Rugby on August 8, 9 and 12.

Fans moved quickly to snap up tickets upon the announcement, but some were left empty-handed and out of pocket with issues over dynamic pricing.

The ticket process for the shows came under criticism, with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer promising action on inflated prices following the release.

An application to Edinburgh City Council’s licensing board to increase Murrayfield’s capacity from 67,130 to 69,990 was approved on Monday.

Councillor Louise Young, licensing board convener, said: “An application to increase the capacity at Murrayfield for the upcoming Oasis concerts was approved by the Licensing Board on June 23.

“This decision followed consultation with the police and public safety officers.”

A statement posted on official Oasis social media channels earlier this week said: “As the shows are getting closer, Oasis promoters may be able to release a very limited number of additional tickets for sale once final sight lines are checked and the production is fine-tuned.

“These final production releases will happen over the coming days.”

It comes after frontman Liam Gallagher criticised the city council after leaked minutes of public safety briefings suggested fans of the band would be “middle-aged, drunk, rowdy” and would be likely to “take up more room”.

In the documents, concerns were raised that the sold-out tour would clash with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

One note from the documents, which were released following a freedom of information request by the Scottish Sun, shows council officials warning that “middle-aged men take up more room, consider this when working out occupancy”.

Another detailed “concern about crowds of Oasis on weekends as they are already rowdy and the tone of the band”.

Responding on social media, Gallagher said: “To the Edinburgh council I’ve heard what you said about Oasis fans and quite frankly your attitude f****** stinks I’d leave town that day if I was any of you lot.”

The city council then insisted it was “proud to host the biggest and best events in Edinburgh”, and that it was “looking forward” to the Oasis concerts.

Increased capacities had previously been agreed for concerts showcasing the likes of Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.
