Line-up for Summer Nights at the Bandstand revealed

Belinda Carlisle, Van Morrison, Rick Astley and KT Tunstall are among the headliners announced to play at this year’s Summer Nights at the Bandstand.

The annual festival returns to Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park from Thursday, July 30 to Saturday, August 15.

Superstars: Belinda Carlisle and KT Tunstall.

Rufus Wainwright, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Richard Hawley, Primal Scream, King Creosote, and The Jesus & Mary Chain will also perform.

Now in its seventh year, the festival will be opened by Suzanne Vega and closed by Edwyn Collins and Altered Images.

KT Tunstall said she was “thrilled” to be part of the line-up, while legendary singer-songwriter Edwyn Collins added: “I spent a lot of time in Kelvingrove in 1978/79, when I was an illustrator for Glasgow Parks.

“I designed and illustrated leaflets for walkways and nature trails, it was a very nice job for someone like me, the only paid job I ever had.

“Once, with some schoolkids on a trail, they asked me if I was a punk. ‘Yes children, I’m nature punk!’

“I hardly remember the bandstand then, it was disused, but I am delighted it has been returned to its original glory, hosting great music nights and I am excited to be playing my part this year.”

Music: Richard Hawley and Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream.

The Birra Moretti and Eden Mill Village will offer up its finest beers and assorted gins along with a selection of street food.

Councillor David McDonald, chair of Glasgow Life, said: “What a fantastic line-up.

“Once again, the Summer Nights concerts are set to be among the cultural highlights of 2020.

“The Kelvingrove Bandstand is a unique venue and this year’s array of international and Scottish-born stars means music-lovers will be spoilt for choice this summer.

“As a Unesco City of Music, Glasgow is proud to welcome these prestigious artists to this first-class, open-air stage. And whatever the weather, audiences are assured of a musical treat.”

Tickets go on sale from 9am on Friday.
