A festival which had its main stage named after local singer Paige Dougall, who died earlier this year with cancer, has been cancelled due to poor ticket sales.

Kirkcaldy Breakout Festival was set to take place from Friday, May 27 until Sunday, May 29 with funds being raised for NHS Scotland.

Organisers have confirmed that the festival, which would have featured performances from artists including Gun, Hue and Cry, and Sandi Thom, has now been cancelled.

In a statement posted on Facebook, a spokesperson for the festival wrote: “It is with enormous regret that we have to announce the cancellation of Breakout.

“The current economic climate has led to a level of ticket sales that make live events unviable.

“We would like to offer our sincere thanks to all the bands, partner agencies, and suppliers who have continued to give us their full support right to the last minute.”

The festival was originally set to take place in October last year, with 17-year-old Paige due to perform, but the event was postponed due to rising Covid infections.

The teenager passed away in January after battling Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, for two years.
