Singer-songwriter Johnny Marr was inducted into the prestigious hall of fame at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom ahead of his show at the iconic venue on Wednesday night.

The musician, formerly of The Smiths, was playing the venue for the ninth time amid his UK headline tour.

The Barrowlands hall of fame inductees over the years have included the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Simple Minds and many more.

Speaking of the induction, 60-year-old Marr said: “Thank you to the legendary Glasgow Barrowlands for inducting me into their Hall Of Fame.

“I remember arriving in the dressing room in 1985 and since then I’ve had the honour of playing there so many times in many different bands.”

The Mancunian first performed at the venue in 1985 with The Smiths, returning there with the group again in 1986.

He then performed at Barrowlands with Simple Minds in 1987, with The The in 1989, with Electronic in 1991, as special guest to Oasis in 2001, as a member of The Cribs in 2008, with his solo band in 2018, and returned as for a headline performance as part of The Spirit Power Tour on April 3.
