Ashley Storrie has paid an emotional tribute to her mum Janey Godley after spending Christmas without her for the first time since she died.

Storrie, who spoke at her mum’s funeral, posted on Instagram that she was finding the festive season difficult following Godley’s death on November 2.

She said: “Dear Ma, It’s my first Xmas without you. It’s been weird waking up, not opening the gift I didn’t want as you defiantly stared on. You staunchly refusing to buy me what I asked for, every year.

“I’ve always disliked Christmas, it was one dad melt down after another until we just made it you and me and small and quiet because he didn’t like Christmas.

“And now you’re gone and we’re sitting in a cold room with no decorations, no gifts, no xmas dinner… and I can’t stop crying, just continuous tears and he’s turned his telly up because my sniffing is interrupting the never ending NCIS/ Law and Order marathon that is his life.

“You’d laugh if you were here. I’ve got to work tonight and I need to stop crying before I got on the radio.

“Nobody likes a crying adult. It’s weird writing this on social media, but I figured if you were haunting anywhere it would be the internet.”

Godley died on November 2, aged 63, after receiving palliative treatment for terminal cancer.

The comedian achieved viral fame by creating voiceover parodies of former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon’s coronavirus news briefings during the pandemic, and they became friends.

Her funeral took place at St Mary’s Cathedral in the west end of Glasgow after a two-day “final tour” of the cities she loved.

Storrie’s message continued: “I’m still furious at you for leaving me. I miss you. Dad misses you. Honey’s lost a load of weight and is living her best life, she’s been full of high spirits!

“Dad thinks it’s because he let her sniff your dead body and she’s ‘at peace’. I think it’s because she’s got a walnut brain and has no idea what’s going on beyond ‘chicken’.

“I want to tell you all the unintentionally funny things I’ve seen or heard, and listen to you wheeze laugh. I want to tell you about how dad fell out the attic on the day of the BAFTAs because I apparently can’t have anything to myself without my parents trying to ruin it.

“I miss you. And you’re everywhere. That’s the worst part. There’s no respite. shelter have your f****** wedding dress on display in their window and I sob every time I walk past it to get to Sainsbury’s. Anyway, merry Christmas Ma. It’s s**** here without you.”
