Peter Mullan, Jean Johansson, Grado, Susie McCabe and Siobhan Redmond will appear on this year’s STV Hogmanay programme.

The broadcaster’s annual get-together, Bringing in the Bells, will once again see some of Scotland’s famous faces celebrate the best moments of the last 12 months and keep viewers company as midnight approaches.

Airing on STV and STV Player at 11.20pm on December 31, the programme’s line-up includes broadcaster Jean Johansson, who will reunite with actor and wrestler Grado for their annual confab.

With Jean having travelled around the world as part of her presenting role on A Place in the Sun this year, and Grado recently announcing a staggering ten-show Two Doors Down residency at the OVO Hydro in 2026, there’s plenty for these unlikely pals to catch up on.

The Bringing in the Bells guestlist also includes STV presenters Sean Batty and Laura Boyd, as well as comedian Susie McCabe and broadcaster Gordon Smart.

The programme will be narrated by Sanjeev Kohli – whose 2025 included a role in international smash-hit Netflix series, Dept. Q – and will include two musical performances from a new star of 2025, Ullapool accordionist RuMac, who reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent earlier this year.

Jean Johansson said: “When STV called me up and said I’ll be bringing in the bells this year with a huge star who’s sold out ten shows at the Hydro, I couldn’t contain my excitement at the thought of being sat next to Lewis Capaldi, Alex Turner or Robbie Williams.

“Turns out it’s Grado again… but truth be told, I can’t think of anyone better to see in the new year with than Scotland’s premier star of stage and screen! Roll on Hogmanay!”

STV is also set to air a “powerful” short film just after the bells, which explores Scottish traditions, families and culture.

Simply titled Hogmanay and airing at 12.05am on January 1, the film is written and produced by independent filmmaker Laura Harvey and stars some of the country’s finest actors, including Peter Mullan, Siobhán Redmond and Ann Louise Ross.

Hogmanay follows a Glasgow woman who returns to her recently deceased father’s flat on Hogmanay and finds the past, present and future colliding around her.

Named Best Scottish Film at this year’s HB Film Festival, Hogmanay is directed by Kirsty Hines-Mackay and was created with the support of charities SFAD (Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol & Drugs) and North West Recovery Communities.

Laura Harvey, writer and executive producer of Hogmanay, said: “We are extremely grateful to STV for giving this project a platform. The film explores how one person’s alcoholism affects three generations of women, but it’s also about Scottish culture, resilience, and using the bells as an opportunity to make a fresh start – something I’m sure viewers across the country can relate to.”

Richard Williams, managing director of audience at STV, said: “As well as our annual Hogmanay get-together with some of Scotland’s most dynamic personalities helping us count down to midnight, we’re excited to be hosting the TV premiere of this remarkable independent film, which perfectly encapsulates the often-bittersweet nature of Hogmanay.

“It’s a powerful piece of work, created by homegrown Scottish talent, and is exactly the type of project we’re passionate about supporting at STV.”
