Hit YouTube kids show CoComelon set for feature film debut

Popular Youtube kids show CoComelon is heading to the big screen.

The channel, which specialises in 3D animation videos of children’s songs and nursery rhymes, is set to get its film debut in CoComelon: The Movie.

It’s the third most subscribed channel on the video platform, boasting over 314m subscribers, and attracts more than 4 billion views a month.

The film follows JJ (Connor Esterson) as he embarks on what’s billed as his “biggest adventure yet”: kindergarten.

When JJ’s stuffed bear, Boba, disappears on his first day of kindergarten, he and friends CeCe and Nina set off on a quest that leads them to a magical land, ruled by Princess Harmony, where singing is forbidden.

The film’s stars include Grammy award winning singer SZA as Princess Harmony and Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Nicholas Hoult as Boba.

Emmy nominee Ike Barinholtz also stars as Princess Harmony’s right-hand enforcer, Chicken Peels.

The supporting cast includes comedic stars like Sarah Sherman and Ego Nwodim (Saturday Night Live), stand-up comics Josh Johnson (The Daily Show) and Rhys Darby (Flight of the Concords), impressionist Matthew Friend and Ted Lasso’s Cristo Fernández.

The film is directed by Kat Wood, who worked as a story artist on animated hits like Kung Fu Panda, Megamind and Penguins of Madagascar.

Songs have been produced by multi-platinum songwriter and producer Justin Tranter, who’s collaborated with global artists like Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.

The movie is produced by Moonbug Entertainment, Flywheel Media, Prime Focus Studios, and DreamWorks Animation, with animation by the DNEG Group.

The film is distributed by Universal Pictures.

It’s expected to be out in cinemas in February 2027.
