Two performances of the Strictly Come Dance Live Tour were cancelled due to a leak.

Fresh apology from Hydro after leak cancels Strictly shows

Glasgow Hydro bosses have admitted their “communication could have been better” after thousands of disgruntled Strictly Come Dancing fans were left stranded in the rain.

Sunday’s matinee performance of Strictly’s live tour was called off at the last-minute due a water leak inside the venue.

Scottish Event Campus (SEC) chiefs said the “team worked hard to resolve the problem, which became apparent shortly before doors opened”.

However, they were unable to find the source of the leak affecting the stage area.

Sunday evening’s performance was also cancelled – leaving thousands more fans disappointed.

Audience members told STV News they were “surprised there wasn’t a riot”.

On Monday, a SEC spokesperson apologised to ticket holders who had to wait outside the SSE Hydro before learning the matinee was cancelled.

The spokesperson said: “We sincerely apologise that we had to make a decision to cancel both shows at the weekend.

“After establishing that there was a roof leak just before doors opened our main focus was to try and rectify the situation so that both shows could go ahead and fans would not be disappointed.

“Unfortunately, despite our best efforts it became apparent that this was not going to be possible.

“We are very sorry that customers had to wait outside the venue for a period of time whilst we tried to fix the problem and acknowledge that our communication on this could have been better.”

To avoid “further inconvenience”, they said, refunds will be processed automatically.

The spokesperson added: “We would like to once again apologise for any disappointment these circumstances may have caused.

“Our contractor continues to work on a fix and we are very confident that the issue will be resolved and that all future shows will go ahead as planned.”

Saturday’s performances went ahead as scheduled.

Emmerdale star and Strictly Come Dancing winner Kelvin Fletcher earlier told fans: “Here’s hoping I belong to Glasgow this weekend!”
