Doctor Who fans have been given a first look at stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson as they travel back to the 1960s for the upcoming season of the sci-fi show.

Scots Sex Education actor Gatwa will star as the 15th Doctor, while Coronation Street actress Gibson takes on the role of the Time Lord’s new companion in the upcoming series.

In newly-released images, they are seen standing side-by-side dressed in vintage garb as they arrive in the swinging 60s.

Gatwa, 30, sports a double-breasted blue-and-white pinstripe suit complete with a white shirt, tie and facial sideburns.

Meanwhile Gibson, who will star as trusty sidekick Ruby Sunday, dons white knee-high boots and a black-and-cream dress.

Earlier this month, the BBC revealed drag queen Jinkx Monsoon would also feature in the upcoming season, playing the Doctor’s “most powerful enemy yet”.

The 35-year-old US actress previously won two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race – including an All Stars season where she was crowned Queen of Queens, competing against other winners of the show.

She joins Doctor Who after completing a sell out run on Broadway, where she made her debut as Matron “Mama” Morton in Broadway’s longest-running show, Chicago.

Doctor Who returns in November with three special episodes, with David Tennant portraying the 14th Doctor to coincide with the 60th anniversary.

Gatwa’s first episode as the 15th Doctor will then air over the festive period.

The season will premiere exclusively on the BBC in the UK and Ireland, with Disney+ streaming new episodes for viewers elsewhere.
