Biffy Clyro bassist James Johnston has announced he will not be joining the band on their upcoming tour as he focuses on his mental health and addiction issues.

Making the announcement in an Instagram post, Johnston said he was “heartbroken” not to be joining the tour and issued apologies to fellow bandmates Simon and Ben, thanking them for their support.

Johnston said he had been living with mental health problems for some time, which led to addiction issues that he had “concealed for a long time”.

He added he is now receiving professional help and reassured fans there is “light at the end of the tunnel”.

Naomi MacLeod will join the band instead for their upcoming tour, which will take in dates in Aberdeen and Glasgow in January 2026.
