Aubrey Plaza calls death of husband Jeff Baena 'unimaginable tragedy'

The family of American director Jeff Baena, including his wife Aubrey Plaza, have issued a joint statement thanking supporters.

Aubrey Plaza has paid tribute to her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, following his death.

In a statement to People magazine, the actor said: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Los Angeles medical examiners have confirmed Baena died by suicide.

The 47-year-old director was best known for his dark comedy films.

His first film, the 2014 zombie comedy Life After Beth, featured Plaza who went on to star in two of his other films, The Little Hours and Spin Me Round.

He and Plaza had been a couple since 2011 before they wed in 2021.

Plaza was scheduled to present at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards but did not attend.
