The smallest deer fawn in the world has been born at Edinburgh Zoo.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) shared the first images of a two-week-old Southern pudu fawn born to parents Violetta and Evan.

The female fawn, named Gia, weighed just 630g at birth – less than a loaf of bread.

Pudu are the smallest species of deer in the world at 73cm when fully grown, and are native to the forests of Chile and Argentina.

Southern pudus are said to be very elusive, and classified as Near Threatened on the The International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List.
