Pensioner taken to hospital and two treated at scene after flat blaze

A 69-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh following the blaze on Drum Street on Tuesday morning.

Two people received medical treatment and a pensioner was taken to hospital after a blaze at a ground floor flat at Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to the Drum Street area of the capital at around 6.53am on Tuesday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised four appliances to the scene and extinguished a blaze on the ground floor of the property.

Two people received medical treatment at the scene and a 69-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as a precaution.

There are not believed to any suspicious circumstances into the fire.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7.10am on Tuesday, April 25, to a report of a fire at a flat on Drum Street, Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and a 69-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as a precaution.

“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.53am on Tuesday, April 25 to reports of a dwelling fire in Drum Street, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, where crews were met by a fire on the ground floor of the property.

“Two casualties were treated at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service and one further casualty was taken to hospital.

“Crews left the scene at 7.20am after ensuring the area was made safe.”
