A woman has died, and four others have been injured following a two-car crash on the A1.

A Renault Austral and a Land Rover Defender were involved in a collision near Torness Power Station around 9.05am on Saturday.

The female front passenger of the Austral was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver and rear passenger were taken to hospital for treatment.

The male driver of the Defender was also taken to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions for seven hours to allow for investigations to be carried out.

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

Sergeant Barry Sommerville of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died.

“Our enquiries are continuing, and I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“The road reopened at 4.15pm on Saturday, March 21, 2026. I want to thank members of the public for their patience while we investigated this serious crash.”
