A woman has died and four people, including a schoolboy, are in hospital after a two-car crash on the A7.
Police are appealing for information following the collision in Galashiels on Thursday around 10.55am on the A7, Abbotsford Road involving a black Seat Altea and a grey Honda CRV.
The driver of the Seat, an 83-year-old woman, was taken to Borders General Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver of the Honda, a 78-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital, along with three passengers, a 75-year-old woman, a 46-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, officers said.
Sergeant Jennifer Niven said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch. In addition if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us.”
