A woman has been charged with breach of the peace after allegedly holding an anti-monarchy sign outside St Giles’ Cathedral on Sunday.
The 22-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly holding the sign near the cathedral on Sunday, September 11, where the monarch’s body is due to be held for 24 hours.
The sign read: “f*** imperialism, abolish monarchy”.
She is now alleged to have breached the peace and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.
A 74-year-old man was also arrested and charged over alleged breach of the peace offences outside the Palace of Holyroodhouse, while a 38-year-old man was similarly arrested in the Duthie Park area of Aberdeen after allegations he was “seen with eggs” in view of the cortege.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 22-year-old woman was arrested outside St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh on Sunday, September 11, in connection with a breach of the peace.
“She was charged and was released on an undertaking to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.”
They added: “A 38-year-old man was charged for a breach of the peace in the vicinity of Duthie Park, Aberdeen on Sunday, September 11.
“He was released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
