A lifelong Falkirk supporter who died after falling ill following the club’s victory over Celtic has been named by his wife.
Falkirk earned a 2-0 win over the Glasgow side at Falkirk Stadium on Sunday for the first time since 2007.
The club confirmed that a fan took ill when leaving the match and was taken to hospital, where he later died.
Rachel Govan confirmed her husband, Robert, known as Rab, was the supporter who passed away.
An Airth community post shared on her behalf read: “He was at the football today watching Falkirk play Celtic when he took unwell at the end of the game and collapsed as he was leaving the stadium.
“He was taken to hospital by ambulance but unfortunately he passed away this afternoon.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to Rachel, Chris and Rab’s wider family and friends at this sad time.
“Further information will be publicised when known.”
Falkirk acknowledged the incident and paid tribute to Robert and his family.
A statement read: “Falkirk Football Club is aware that a lifelong supporter tragically passed away shortly after leaving today’s game.
“Everyone at Falkirk FC sends their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this most difficult time.”
