The wheels are in motion for a new £370,000 pump track in Dalgety Bay after a planning application was given the go-ahead.
The Dalgety Community Trust have described the approval for the facility on land close to the town’s sports centre as a “huge milestone”.
The proposals include associated development including the erection of boundary treatments and the installation of floodlights.
The trust has been leading the project for the community pump track – which is a looped bike skills circuit designed for riders of all ages and ability.
It will feature a 280-metre circuit which will be ideal for bikes, scooters, skateboards and wheelchairs.
The trust took to social media to welcome the latest development, describing it as “fantastic news” for Dalgety Bay.
The statement added: “We’re thrilled to announce that planning permission has been officially granted for the Pump Track!
“This is a huge milestone for our community, and we couldn’t be more excited. There’s still work ahead to bring this amazing facility to Dalgety Bay, but we’re on our way!
“Thank you to everyone for your support in making this happen!”
A report from Fife Council planners revealed the plans attracted 26 representations in support of the scheme.
“As a proposal providing for local access to good quality play/recreation provision for use by young people, it is considered that the proposal accords with the above provisions of NPF4 policy relating to such play and recreation,” it said.
“As the play/recreation provision would be ‘open air’, making use of a presently underused part of these grounds/open space, the proposal is considered to accord with the above provisions of FIFEplan policy relating to open space and, in turn, an acceptable loss of greenspace in terms of the above provisions of NPF4 relating to loss of greenfield land.
“The development accords with the provisions of policy and guidance relating to the principle of development, design/visual impact, residential amenity, transportation/road safety, flood risk, and trees and natural environment.”
In September, Fife Council’s South and West Fife area committee agreed to contribute £65,000 of funding from the area capital budget after costs for the £370,000 project went up.
