UPDATE: David has now been traced.

An urgent search has been launched for a man thought to have gone missing while trying to walk home from Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders.

David Aitken has not been seen since leaving the area to return to his house in Penicuik.

The 69-year-old was reported missing overnight on Saturday evening and officers say concerns “are growing” over his welfare.

An appeal has been issued for information on his whereabouts.

David is described as being around 5ft 10in tall with grey hair and of an average build.

When he was last seen he was wearing walking sandals, brown V necked jumper, blue and black shirt/jacket and light brown trousers, officers said.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Anyone who may have seen David, or who has any information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 4224 of September 17.”
