Two people found “waist-deep in water” with their three dogs were rescued from a beauty spot near Edinburgh.

RNLI teams from Kinghorn and Queensferry were called out to Cramond Causeway around 5pm on Tuesday following reports of two people and three dogs in the water.

Coastguard teams from South Queensferry also attended the scene. The group was located halfway along the causeway, waist-deep in the water.

They were recovered onto the Kinghorn lifeboat and taken to Cramond village.

RNLI crews said the group were found “cold” with minor abrasions from barnacles on the causeway after being checked over by ambulance crews.

They required no further treatment.

Meanwhile, the dogs had cuts and abrasions on their paws but were otherwise in “good condition”.

A statement from the RNLI said: “Whilst departing the scene, the Queensferry crew spotted another person on Cramond Island.

“They put a crew member ashore to check on the person and a decision was made to return the person to the mainland.

“Always check signage at the causeway or text CRAMOND to 81400 for the day’s safe crossing information.

“In an emergency, do not attempt to wade through rising water. Instead, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
