An appeal has been launched after two litters of kittens were found dumped in cardboard boxes in the same area of Kirkcaldy within days of each other.

A used Amazon delivery box containing a litter of black kittens was first discovered next to a row of bungalows on Inchgarvie Road on Sunday, May 3.

Newburgh-based Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary collected the litter before placing them in the care of Angus Cat Rescue.

A second box of kittens was found on May 5 in the same area. The litter was passed into the care of the Scottish SPCA.

Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary has pleaded with anyone unable to care for cats or kittens to reach out for help.

A post on the sanctuary’s Facebook page said: “Well, words fail me. Another box of kittens was found today in the same area as the litter found on Sunday. Why?

“These kittens are now with the SSPCA. Please, please do not do this. Lift the phone and ask us for help.”

STV News have contacted the SSPCA for comment.
