Two elderly women have been scammed by a bogus workman who defrauded them of money in Fife.

Police are now warning the public to be vigilant fearing more vulnerable people could be targeted.

The incidents took place in Kirkcaldy on Friday, September 10, when the man claimed to be carrying out inspections and repair work on guttering in Maree Place.

He approached the women at their home addresses between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.

The suspect is described as being in his 30s and around 5ft7 with a stocky build with short dark hair.

He was white and spoke with a local accent.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a baseball cap and casual jogging style trousers and top.

Inspector Gordon Anderson said: “This is an appalling crime targeting the some of the most vulnerable in our society.

“It is vital we find out who is responsible for this and therefore I am appealing to the public and local residents of Kirkcaldy to get in touch if they can assist our enquiries.

“We are carrying out extra patrols and speaking to those in the local area, however I would also encourage residents to check CCTV or dash-cam footage as it may assist us in our investigation.”
