Passengers faced delays at Edinburgh Airport after a hole appeared on the aging runway.
Flights were suspended on Thursday morning while airport teams carried out repairs on a “small break up” on the runway.
FlightRadar showed that several flights from airlines including Ryanair, EasyJet, Jet2, Air Canada, British Airways and Qatar Airways were forced to queue as they awaited permission to take off.
The airport said that the runway is approaching the end of its life with a full replacement operation planned for next year.
A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “Arrivals and departures were suspended as teams carried out repairs to a small breakup.
“The runway is approaching the end of its life with a full replacement operation planned for next year.
“We always prioritise safety and maintain a regular maintenance regime, and we will continue to complete works where and when required.”
Flights resumed after the runway issue was fixed.
