There is major disruption to train services across Scotland after a fire caused “significant damage”.
Images shared by Network Rail on Thursday evening showed a railway line engulfed by orange flames after a fire broke out at Caldercruix, next to the railway line between Airdrie and Bathgate, at around 5.35pm.
The line between Airdrie and Bathgate was subsequently closed.
Sharing images to social media, they wrote: “We’re dealing with a significant amount of damage to signalling, power and telecom cables due to the fire.”
Around 80m of cabling was left burnt and damaged at Caldercruix.

ScotRail confirmed the line reopened last night and that the fire had been extinguished, however, services were subject to delays and cancellation on Friday morning following damage.
The rail firm posted on X: “Due to a signalling fault in the Caldercruix area yesterday following a fire next to the track, services between Helensburgh and Edinburgh and between Milngavie and Edinburgh will be subject to delays, alterations and cancellations.”
Passengers due to travel on services between Milngavie and Edinburgh are asked to check with their train operators before departing.
