Three women have been charged over terrorism offences after a van crashed into the perimeter of a defence factory in Edinburgh.

A pro-Palestinian group, Shut Down Leonardo Edinburgh, claimed members had damaged the site on Ferry Road on Tuesday.

Police confirmed they responded to the incident at the Italian-owned manufacturer, which supplies parts for jets and helicopters.

On Sunday, officers confirmed that three women, aged 31, 34, and 42, have now been charged under the Terrorism Act 2000 following the incident.

The women are due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

Police are appealing to members of the public for information relating to the movements of a blue Ford Transit van in the Georgie Road area on Monday and prior to the incident on Tuesday.

They are also looking to trace the movements of a white Honda CR-Z on these dates. It was recovered from a carpark in Gorgie Road following the incident.

Anyone who saw either vehicle in the area, or has any information, is asked to contact police.

If anyone was in the Crewe Road North or Gorgie Road areas and has any relevant dashcam footage or saw anything suspicious, please contact police on 101 quoting reference 0416 of July 15.
