Three women arrested over terror offences after van crashed into defence factory

Police confirmed three women, aged 31, 34, and 42, have been arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Three women have been arrested in connection with terror offences after a van was driven into the perimeter of a defence factory in Edinburgh.

A pro-Palestinian group, Shut Down Leonardo Edinburgh, claimed members had damaged the site on Ferry Road on Tuesday.

Police confirmed they responded to the incident at the Italian-owned manufacturer, which supplies parts for jets and helicopters.

Officers confirmed that three women, aged 31, 34, and 42, have been arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 following the incident.

Police Scotland’s Counter Terrorism Unit are leading the investigation, and enquiries are ongoing.

The force is urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

“We are treating this as targeted, and we do not believe there is any wider threat to the public,” a Police Scotland spokesperson said.

“If anyone was on Crewe Road North or in the nearby supermarket car park during the early hours of this morning and has any relevant dashcam footage or saw anything suspicious, please contact the Police on 101 quoting reference 0416 of July 15.”
