Three taken to hospital after four-vehicle crash near Edinburgh Airport

Three people have been taken to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash near Edinburgh Airport.

The crash occurred at around 9.20am on Monday on the A8 road near the BP garage.

The collision involved four vehicles, according to a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which deployed three appliances to the area.

Police described the crash as “serious”, with the road closed in both directions, resulting in diversions and delays for commuters and holidaymakers heading to Edinburgh Airport.

An ambulance spokesperson confirmed three people had been taken to hospital.

They said: “We received a call at 9.22am to attend a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the A8 near Ingliston.

“We dispatched three ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response unit (PRU), and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

“We transported three patients to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”

Traffic Scotland said the A8 is closed in both directions with a diversion in place via the M8 and around to Gogar to access the airport.

A spokesman for Edinburgh Airport said: “We’re working closely with the emergency services and relevant partners to manage access to the airport following this incident.

“Passengers should allow additional time to reach the airport and consider alternative routes or modes of transport where possible. Anyone concerned about their travel plans should contact their airline directly for the latest advice.

“We appreciate the disruption this will cause and will continue to work with Police Scotland and other partners throughout the day.”
